VINNY SCHIEDA COMMITS TO FITCHBURG STATE
by posted 06/09/2009

VINNY SCHIEDA COMMITS TO FITCHBURG STATE

The Bobcats and Gulls are very happy to announce that Vinny Schieda has committed to the Falcons of Fitchburg State College for the upcoming 2009/20010 season.  Vinny becomes the seventh Bobcats player to commit to play college hockey for the 09/10 season.  Fitchburg State is a member of the ECAC Northeast, an eighteen-member conference, which boasts some of the strongest Division II and III hockey programs in the country.  Vinny will be joining former teammates, Thomas McAleer and Travis Bertolotti, both of whom recently concluded very successful first-year campaigns with the Falcons.

This past season was Vinny’s second with the Bobcats.  A unique player, Vinny has the ability to combine his significant size and strength with a surprising finesse game that relies more on his soft hands and puck handling ability.  Highly regarded as the team’s enforcer, Vinny spent considerable time ensuring that opponents did not take liberties with many of our younger players.  That role did not stop him from also being a productive offensive force when it was needed, especially in the second half of the season, when he went through a 12-game stretch where he scored 18 points while playing on the team’s top line.  His overall contributions were a significant factor in the Bobcats’ tremendous success this year, which culminated in a South Division regular season title, an appearance in the AJHL Finals and a trip to Marlborough, MA to compete for the Tier III Junior A National Championship.  Respected and well liked by all of his teammates, Vinny’s veteran leadership was a noticeable presence in the locker room, especially during the latter part of the season as the team struggled through some tough injuries and inconsistent play.

By way of background, Vinny spent almost his entire youth hockey career with the Long Island Gulls.  For a significant part of that time, he was coached by current Bobcats Coach, Eddie Galiani.  Vinny is most remembered in Gulls lore for being a member of the Gulls 2004 Bantam State Championship team that ultimately competed in the U.S. Nationals in Pittsburgh that year.  He was also a player on the Gulls 2002 PeeWee State Finalist.  Before joining the Bobcats in the 07/08 season Vinny was a significant contributor on the 06/07 Suffolk PAL Junior B team, which captured the MJHL Regular Season Championship and earned a berth in the National semi-finals.  Vinny’s other notable youth hockey accomplishment includes being selected three separate times for the High School Vytra Cup All-Stars.

Vinny hopes to make an immediate impact on the ice at Fitchburg State.  From an academic standpoint, he has not settled on a course of study, but has expressed a keen interest in physical education.  The Bobcats and Gulls would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt congratulations to Vinny and the entire Schieda family, and wishes him the very best as he heads to Fitchburg State College to commence his academic and college hockey career.

WORCESTER SHARKS SIGN FORMER NEW YORK JUNIOR BOBCATS DEFENSEMAN LOUIS LIOTTI

WORCESTER - Worcester Sharks General Manager Wayne Thomas announced today that the team has signed defenseman Louis Liotti to an American Hockey League contract.

Liotti spent four seasons with Northeastern University and in 2008-09, served as an assistant captain and was named the Hockey East's Best Defensive Defenseman. He had his best offensive season with four goals and nine assists in 40 games and finished plus-11 with the Huskies during their 25 win season.

The six-foot-one, 200-pound native of Westbury, NY played for the New York Junior Bobcats in the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons. He scored in his final game as a Husky, scoring the first goal of the game in Northeastern’s 3-2 loss to Cornell in the NCAA Tournament.

“Louis will be a great addition to our organization and we are looking forward to continuing his development as a professional hockey player,” said Thomas.  “Louis is an excellent defensive defenseman that can play in key situations.”  Former Bobcats Head Coach and current team President Dan Marshall expressed that he and the organization are; "So proud of Louis' accomplishments, not only perservering on the ice and into pro hockey, but also graduating from such a great institution like Northeastern."

Good Luck, Louis Liotti!

Ryan Boucher Heads to Southern Maine

RYAN BOUCHER COMMITS TO SOUTHERN MAINE

The New York Bobcats are very happy to announce that standout defenseman, Ryan Boucher, has committed to the Huskies of Southern Maine for the 2009/2010 season. Southern Maine is a member of the very competitive ECAC East League in Division III college hockey.

Ryan was a late season acquisition from the Portland Pirates of the Atlantic Junior Hockey League. After having developed and played in the strong and prestigious Pirate program for the past three seasons, Ryan joined the Bobcats in February with the hope of helping them earn an AJHL league championship and berth in the Tier III Junior “A” Nationals. While the Bobcats fell short of winning their third league championship, having lost to the Northern Mass Cyclones in a hard fought final championship series, Ryan’s contributions were instrumental in helping the Bobcats earn that coveted National Championship berth. A gifted offensive defenseman, Ryan solidified the point on the Bobcats’ powerplay and easily slid into a mentoring role for many of the team’s younger defensemen. His puck handling skills and vision on the ice resulted in a 1-8-9 line in just 19 games, while his maturity and experience added another layer of character to the Bobcats locker room. His combined point totals of 13-16-29 in 44 games were good enough for third in the AJHL among defensemen.

By way of background, Ryan participated in the U-14, U-15, U-16 and U-17 U.S. National Camps…a rare feat for any youth hockey player. He was a member of the Sea Coast Spartan team that finished as the New England Regional Bantam Finalist in the 03/04 season. In addition to being one of the top players for a Portland Pirate team that finished as Regular Season Runner Ups during the 07/08 season, Ryan earned a spot in the AJHL All-Star game all three season he played in the league. He was also a player on the AJHL Select Team that traveled to Blaine, Minnesota in 2006. Those appearances culminated in him being named the MVP for the Northern Conference in this year’s All-Star game.

Aside from his terrific ability on the ice, it should be noted that Ryan has been a true-student athlete. A strong student with excellent SATs, Ryan earned a 3.87 GPA while taking selected post-graduate courses at Southern Maine during the three years he played for the Pirates. Ryan exemplifies the true student-athlete and those attributes have created the foundation and potential for great success at the collegiate level.

The Bobcats would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt congratulations to Ryan, the entire Boucher family and the Portland Pirate organization, and wishes him the very best as he heads to the University of Southern Maine to embark on his academic and college hockey career.

BOBCAT CAPTAIN COMMITS TO BECKER COLLEGE
by posted 04/08/2009

CAPTAIN DONNY KANE HEADED TO BECKER COLLEGE

The Bobcats are happy to announce that Donny Kane has committed to the Hawks of Becker College for the upcoming 2009/2010 season. Donny becomes the fifth Bobcats player to commit to play college hockey for the 09/10 season. Becker College is a member of the ECAC Northeast, an eighteen-member conference, which boasts some of the strongest Division II and III hockey programs in the country. Adding a bit of noteworthy history, the Hawks are coached by Steve Hoar, Dan Marshall’s former coach at Plattsburg State College. Together, they won a Division III National Championship in 1987.

An offensively gifted defenseman, Donny directed the Bobcats power-play from game one of the season, scoring a team-leading 27 power-play points. His 46 points overall were good for 5th on the team in scoring, and his eye-popping 42 assists, all while playing on the backline, led all players on the team. In addition, his 23 points in league games placed him 7th among AJHL defensemen. An AJHL All-Star during the 08/09 season, Donny’s contributions and leadership on the ice were a key component of the Bobcats success this year, which culminated in a South Division regular season title, an appearance in the AJHL Finals and a trip to Marlborough, MA to compete for the Tier III Junior A National Championship.

By way of background, Donny is an alumnus of the Metropolitan Junior “B” Hockey League, where he was the Captain of the New Jersey Titans during the 07/08 season. Donny was also a two–time MJHL All-Star and was 3rd in league scoring among MJHL defensemen during the 07/08 campaign. In addition to competing in the 2006 Empire State Games for New York City, Donny was the Captain of the Monsignor Farrell Varsity Hockey team in the 05/06 season.

Donny hopes to make an immediate impact on the ice at Becker College State, but most importantly, would like to pursue a career in Sports Management. The Bobcats would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt congratulations to Donny and the entire Kane family, and wishes him the very best as he heads to Becker College to embark on his academic and college hockey career.
